Everything Un-Englishy (But still magically British)

The outlying cultures fascinate me the most. The Irish, the Scottish, the Welsh… Something about their removal from the English stigma makes them my ideal setting for any fantasy story. Perhaps it’s a mix of their Gaelic and Celtic heritages, and their beautiful lands.

I’ll never grow tired of reading about the Welsh landscape in Howl’s Moving Castle. Easily one of the best settings in literature drawn for the screen, doesn’t this landscape make you want to go there for a spring holiday? It’s from the Studio Ghibli movie based off the book by Diana Wynne Jones.

(On a related note, I can’t believe Miyazaki is retiring!)
